Washington, DC – On Tuesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge James Donohue rejected the Trump Administration’s demand that Daniel be denied his right to have his case heard in Federal court. But while the hearing process goes on, Daniel will remain in detention – denied his freedom and access to be a dad to his son.
Greisa Martinez, Advocacy Director of United We Dream and DACA beneficiary said:
“Daniel was racially profiled and framed by Trump’s ICE agents and must be released immediately!
“Daniel Ramirez and Dany Vargas’ nightmares have brought worldwide attention to what we’ve long known to be true – that ICE agents fabricate evidence, terrorize, detain and deport immigrants without regard to civil rights, humanity or even common sense.
“Trump’s executive orders have unleashed ICE agents to act with absolute impunity – detaining DACA recipients, mothers, fathers and everyday people just trying to live their lives. This case isn’t only about Daniel’s freedom, the court will be deciding on the future of civil rights for thousands of immigrants.
“The immigrant youth of United We Dream submitted an amicus brief in the case to bring the voices of young people just like Daniel into the proceedings and we will continue to do everything we can to fight for Daniel’s freedom, preserve DACA’s protections and stand in the way of Trump’s mass deportation plans.”
